This is a major reform in line with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, which aims to provide innovative, multi-dimensional, flexible, employment-oriented, and skill-enhancing educational opportunities to the learners.
The four-year degree programme will offer multiple entry and exit points for students in the four years. These options are at the end of the second, fourth, and sixth semesters, respectively, in the four-year degree programme, with certification, diploma, and basic Bachelor’s degrees. Students will receive a Bachelor’s degree with Honours on successfully completing all eight semesters of the UG programme.
The four-year degree programme will also enable students to choose from a wide range of courses various disciplines such as minor courses, open electives, value education and co-curricular courses. This will promote a multidisciplinary approach to learning and enhance the skills and competencies of the students.
The four-year degree programme will also facilitate the internationalisation of higher education by a with the global standards. Students will be able to transfer credits across universities and institutions within India and abroad. They will also have access to various academic collaborations and exchange programmes with foreign universities.
The MU has made a comprehensive curriculum and credit scheme for the humanities, commerce, and science disciplines based on the recommendations of the Ravindra Kulkarni Committee report, University Grants Commission guidelines, and relevant government directives.
The MU has also formed clusters of colleges to decentralise the implementation process and promote resource-sharing. Each cluster will be headed by a ‘lead college’.The lead college will normally be an A grade college with good infrastructure and faculty. The cluster system will help colleges within a cluster to collectively design courses, share expertise and facilities, and conduct examinations.
The MU has already granted 4 years degree to a majority of the 62 autonomous colleges. In the second phase of curriculum development, the MU will focus on restructuring various professional courses offered at non-affiliated colleges.
